The pipe is inserted into a recessed socket in the fitting and joined with a fillet weld around the joint. This gives a strong, leak-proof permanent connection, commonly used up to NB 100 in pressure classes 3000#, 6000# & 9000# for high-pressure, critical-service piping.
Female threads machined into the fitting bore mate with male pipe threads (NPT/BSP) — no welding required. Easy to install and disassemble for maintenance, threaded fittings are best suited to smaller-diameter, low/medium pressure utility and instrumentation lines.
